IMarEST partners with Norstar Shipmanagement and Norstar Crew Management

23 May 2018

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), the world’s largest global marine and maritime professional body, has today announced a partnership with Norstar Ship Management in Singapore and Norstar Crew Management in Myanmar.

The partnership will support the enhancement, attraction, and development of both engineering and deck officers in Singapore and Myanmar – all will gain access to the IMarEST’s vast online library of technical knowledge, be able to join local events, as well as enable those who obtain their Certificates of Competency to use these towards a globally recognised professional qualification (such as becoming a Chartered Marine Engineer or a Chartered Marine Technologist).

Additionally, the program will see all of Norstar’s cadets signed up as student (SIMarEST) members of the IMarEST to support their Initial Professional Development.

Chris Kirton, Managing Director of Norstar Ship Management commented: “This is a fantastic partnership for the development of our people both at sea and ashore. The program will enable our people to gain access to the IMarEST’s vast resources and knowledge, and allow them to apply for different levels of professional membership and registration. As a global shipping company, we place a huge amount of value on our people, and this sort of partnership will help them to develop and become recognised globally.”

Norstar is a fully integrated shipping company carrying out all aspects of ship owning, investment, chartering, operations and finance.

David Kelly, Director of Asia Pacific for IMarEST added: “We are delighted to be working with Norstar on this partnership. Supporting the professional development of marine professionals is at the very core of what the IMarEST stands for.

Members of the Institute can get involved with the regional branches that hold presentations and networking events. The IMarEST has an active branch in Singapore and launched its newest branch in Myanmar in 2017.
